The brain is the most complex organ known to man. It is the orchestrator of the entire human (and animal) body yet still science has only scratched the surface in getting to know the complexities and workings of the brain. We know the “mechanics” of the brain in that it is made up of neurons and glial cells and we have wonderful diagrams showing the functional areas of the brain. We know that it controls reaction, function and co-ordination of all the cells of the body. So isn’t it remarkable that when someone is diagnosed with an illness or disease, we never look at the brain. Logic tells us that if there is a problem with an organ in the body then surely the brain must know about it.

The brain translates our perceptions into meaningful physical reactions

Generally in the western world we treat illness as a random event. We “catch” flu and other infections and more serious conditions are seen as malfunctions of specific organs. We think that good health is “luck for the draw”. We are all walking around wondering whether we are “lucky” or whether we will be struck down by terrible disease and illness. We eat healthily, try to stop smoking and drinking. We attempt to banish microbes and bacteria. We sterilise our home environments. We eat the latest fad “super food” to prevent cancer. Yet we’re not getting healthier. In fact the instance of cancers and heart disease is steadily rising in the west.

Based on the pioneering work of a controversial German cancer doctor, it has now been proven that when there is a diseased organ, a corresponding area in the brain shows structural change under brain CT scan. The conscious brain theory takes this a step further.

The conscious brain theory is based on the belief that nature doesn’t make mistakes. Nature is structured, ordered and purposeful and every disease in the body is a primal response to external stimuli. The brain activates cells, tissues and organs in response to a specific stress experience. Disease isn’t out to get us; in fact the higher purpose of disease is solely evolutionary – to build and make stronger.

Our mind and our perceptions are key here. When we experience a stressful event, the way we non-consciously perceive that event is the communication signal to the brain. The brain then acts as a translator and manifestor for the physical body.

Our brain “receives” our non conscious perceptions and translates them into a conscious physical response. Whether we are aware of it or not, everything in our body is a translation or our mind effected by our brain. On a biological level, every physical response is meaningful and serves an evolutionary purpose to strengthen the organism; however this is experienced by us as disease.

All we need to do is to understand the language of the body and then we can unlock which perceptions are responsible for every physical and emotional condition that can be experienced. And the really good news is, all the mapping work has already been done………more about this in a later entry.

It is impossible to start this blog without first discussing the concept of conciosuness. It is a concept that scientists and philosophers have baffled over for centuries so I don’t expect to be able to resove the difficult questions around consciousness in this blog. But what I hope to do is present a simple explanation as to how I believe consciousness ticks!

The brain translates consciousness into mind and matter

Consciousness is the essence of life but in order to explain it we have to shift our focus somewhat. Contrary to popular belief, consciousness is not a by-product of life but all life is born of conscoiusness. This theory is known as the primacy of consciousness.

That means that consciousness is the creator of our material universe and we are all possibilities born out of that concsiousness.

The concept of consciousness is one which science cannot prove (or disprove), measure or specifically locate. It poses a problem for the scientific because it cannot be quantified or measured using the material systems of traditional scientific methods.

Consciousness is not the mind or matter. Mind and matter are mere possibilities of consciousness. Every physical strucutre in the human body is born out of consciousness. If we can adapt our world view to accepting the primacy of consciousnes, we can also open the door to the possibility that healing is not a pure physical response but true and lasting healing must start with a shift in consciousness.

This blog, The Conscious Brain will show how the brain is a physical manifestor of our conscious experience and by understanding what the brain is doing, we can map it back to specific experiences which cause ill health.
